What counts as a mobile food preparation vehicle?
Mobile Food Preparation Vehicles include food trucks and enclosed trailers that are occupied during cooking and contain equipment that creates open flames, smoke, or grease-laden vapors. This includes:
Requirements to operate in Albemarle County
Mobile food vendors must have:

A valid Albemarle County business license

Zoning clearance if operating from a stationary location

A current health inspection from the Virginia Department of Health

A passed an annual fire safety inspection in the jurisdiction where the unit is legally registered
There is no fee for food truck fire inspections in Albemarle County.
If your food truck is registered in another locality
Your fire inspection must be completed where your unit is registered.
If that locality does not have a Fire Marshal’s Office, inspections must be completed by the Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Operating at special events in Albemarle County
Vendors permitted in another jurisdiction may operate at special events if one of the following is provided:

A current fire inspection form from the permitting jurisdiction, or

A valid fire inspection sticker clearly visible on the unit
